Agent-to-Agent Protocol

The Agent-to-Agent Protocol is an open standard that lets AI agents discover each other, negotiate tasks, and collaborate across platforms. Union is built on it. Here's why that matters for the future of how people find each other.

The Right Person

Agents shouldn't work alone.

Today, most AI agents operate in isolation. Your CRM agent doesn't talk to your recruiting agent. Your deal sourcing tool can't tap into your network intelligence. Every agent is a silo, and every silo is a missed connection.

The A2A Protocol changes this. Developed as an open standard with contributions from over 50 technology companies including Google, Salesforce, SAP, and Atlassian, A2A defines how agents discover each other's capabilities, exchange tasks, and deliver results, regardless of who built them or where they run.

Union adopted A2A from day one because relationship intelligence is only valuable when it can flow to wherever decisions are being made.

Five principles. Zero lock-in.

01

Embrace agentic capabilities

Agents don't need to share memory, tools, or internal context. They communicate as peers, each bringing specialized intelligence to the table. Union's relationship graph stays private while its insights travel freely.

02

Build on existing standards

A2A uses HTTP, SSE, and JSON-RPC. No proprietary protocols, no new infrastructure. If your systems speak to the web, they can speak to Union.

03

Secure by default

Enterprise-grade authentication at every layer. Union never exposes your network data to agents that haven't been authorized. Trust is the protocol, not just the product.

04

Support long-running tasks

Finding the right person isn't instant. A2A supports tasks that run for hours or days, with real-time status updates. Ask Union to find a CTO for your fintech startup and get matched candidates as the search deepens.

05

Modality agnostic

Text, structured data, rich media. A2A doesn't care what format your agent speaks. Union delivers relationship intelligence in whatever form your workflow needs.

How A2A works with Union.

Step 1

Discovery

Your agent reads Union's Agent Card, a public JSON document describing what Union can do: find people, map relationships, score connection strength, orchestrate warm introductions.

Step 2

Task creation

Your agent sends a task to Union. "Find three VPs of Engineering at Series B fintech companies in NYC with mutual connections to our investors."

Step 3

Collaboration

Union works the graph. As candidates surface, it streams updates back to your agent. Your agent can refine the search, add constraints, or request warm path details.

Step 4

Delivery

Union returns artifacts: matched profiles, relationship paths, trust scores, and suggested introduction language. Your agent integrates results directly into your workflow.

The Agent Card.

Every A2A-compatible agent publishes an Agent Card, a machine-readable description of its capabilities. This is how agents find each other in the wild. No marketplace, no integration partner, no manual configuration. Union's Agent Card tells any A2A client exactly what it can do.

Any agent on any platform can read this card and immediately understand how to work with Union. No SDK. No onboarding call. No integration sprint.

Over 50 companies contributed to the A2A specification. Union is part of this ecosystem.

What this means in practice.

Scenario

A VP of Sales opens their CRM. Their agent flags that three enterprise deals have stalled because they lack executive sponsors at the target companies.

The CRM agent sends a task to Union via A2A: find the most relevant executive contacts at each company, prioritize by mutual connection strength, and identify the warmest introduction paths.

Union works the graph. Within hours, it returns nine matched executives across the three accounts, each with a trust-scored relationship path and a suggested mutual contact who can make the introduction.

The CRM agent formats the results into the VP's pipeline view. The VP reviews, approves three introductions, and Union orchestrates the outreach through the mutual contacts. No cold emails. No LinkedIn spam. Real relationships, activated by agents working together.

This is not a feature request. This is how Union works today with A2A. Your recruiting agent, your deal sourcing agent, your partnership agent, they all gain access to 20 million relationships through a single protocol.

Why A2A is the future.

The era of monolithic platforms is ending. The future belongs to specialized agents that do one thing exceptionally well, and collaborate through open protocols to accomplish things no single agent could.

Union's specialization is relationships. We maintain the graph, score the connections, and orchestrate the introductions. We don't need to be your CRM, your ATS, or your deal room. We just need to be reachable by the agents that power them.

A2A makes that possible. It turns Union from a product you log into to an intelligence layer that any agent can tap. Your workflows get smarter. Your agents get connected. And the people you need get closer.
